CUSTOM WATERCOLOR PET PORTRAIT
Commission a watercolor portrait of your furry companion to turn your favorite photo of your pet (be that a dog, a cat, a bunny, a bird, or even a capybara - all animals are welcome!) into a beautiful original artwork. Hand-painted with love and attention to detail, each portrait captures the unique personality and charm of your furry friend. Whether you're looking for a special keepsake or a thoughtful gift for a pet parent, each portrait is a one-of-a-kind work of art that you'll cherish for years to come.
THE PROCESS is simple
1) Place an order for the desired painting size
2) Upload to the website or email me a well-lit photo (or multiple)
3) Review the preliminary sketch
4) Approve the photo of the final result -- then look out for your finished portrait in the mail!
I only ship if you are happy with the result!
MATERIALS:
- premium 100% cotton watercolor paper
- professional lightfast watercolor paints
The sizes listed refer to the size of the actual painted area (including a personal message), and DOES NOT include the size of the mat/frame.
I listed the most common sizes as the default options, but if you are looking for a custom size, just contact me!Select 'ARTWORK ONLY' if you would like to receive just the artwork itself and take care of matting / framing yourself.
Please note, I usually leave a trim of white paper of up to 0.5 in around the painting to make it easier to mount it to the mat. But if you'd like me to cut it off before sending, please request it before the order is shipped. Alternatively, you can cut it off to the desired size with regular scissors.Select 'SINGLE / DOUBLE MAT - NO FRAME' option, and I will include:
- a Crescent Select 4-Ply Mat. This mat board is crafted from superior 4-ply alpha-cellulose, ensuring robust protection and lasting beauty for your art. Completely acid-free and lignin-free, it guards against yellowing and deterioration, preserving your work for years to come. Mat sizes:
- 2’’ for portraits up to 11 X 14 in
- 3’’ for portraits up to 16 x 20 in
- 4’’ for 18 x 24 portraits
- an acid-free archival backing board (protects the art and makes it easier to mount)
This way it will be fully ready for you to put it in your own frame.

After adding a pet portrait to your cart, you can include special requests or instructions in the comments during the ordering process, such as including specific details or personal touches.
Please take a moment to review all the details in the reference photo(s) and check if you would like me to make any changes to:
- the layout
- page orientation
- colors
- positioning, proportion, and sizes of elements
Unless you notify me otherwise, I will aim to match the layout, sizes/proportions, and positioning of elements EXACTLY the way they are shown in the photo. There are limited changes I can make after the sketch is completed, and very few things can be changed after I’m finished painting.
I can paint multiple pets in one portrait. Select the number of pets you'd like painted from the drop-down menu. You can provide a photo of them together or include separate photos of each pet to be combined into one portrait.
Please note, not all portrait sizes are available for portraits of multiple pets.
✔️ Acceptable changes after the sketch is completed:
- removing, resizing, or repositioning individual elements without affecting the overall layout
- changing text or font (if text is included)
✔️ Acceptable changes after the entire watercolor painting is completed:
- As watercolor cannot be erased after it’s been put on paper, there are very few changes I can make at this stage, limited to only darkening or adding more color to individual elements.
❌ Changes that cannot be made after the sketch is completed:
- zooming in/out
- page orientation
- resizing major elements involving resizing more than a quarter of other elements in the sketch
- using a different reference photo
- drawing the entire subject or individual elements from a different angle
❌ Changes that cannot be made after the entire watercolor painting is completed:
In addition to the changes listed above, alterations like
- eliminating elements,
- changing positioning, sizes or colors of elements
are NOT possible at this stage without full repaint of the artwork.
Changes resulting in a full sketch re-draw or a full artwork re-paint CANNOT BE PROCESSED without delaying other clients’ commissions. These cases will unfortunately result in an order cancellation and a refund. I appreciate your understanding and cooperation.
The best results come from high-resolution photos with clear details and good lighting. Ideally, the photo should capture your pet’s face and personality. Avoid blurry or dark images, as these can make it difficult to create a detailed and vibrant watercolor portrait.
I can provide a high-resolution digital version of your watercolor pet painting upon request. This is useful if you'd like to print additional copies yourself or use the image for digital purposes.
If you would like additional copies of the original artwork, fine art giclée prints of your custom artwork are available as well.
The paper used for the prints, Aurora Art Natural 300, is made in the USA using 100% cotton, and brings elegance, warmth, and nuance to the art prints. This acid-free paper features a pleasing natural white tone and smooth surface. Plus, Aurora Art Natural 300 contains no optical brighteners. This is a benefit because the paper will remain its original shade over a long period of time.

A custom pet portrait makes a unique and personal gift for any pet parent for birthdays, Christmas, or as a personal keepsake or rememberance.
If you need the portrait to arrive sooner than my current turnaround time or you would like the gift recipient to choose the photo for the custom portrait themselves, I recommend purchasing a gift card. You will receive a digital gift certificate within a day. An optional physical copy of the certificate can be shipped within 2 days upon request.
Or if you would like to use a specific photo for the portrait, please provide the recipient's shipping information during the checkout process. You can include a personal gift message to accompany the painting or request for it to be gift wrapped in the comments to the order.
To preserve the quality of your watercolor portrait, avoid direct sunlight and excessive moisture.
I use high-quality 100% cotton paper and light-resistant watercolor paints which protect your piece from color fading and discoloration over time. Framing your artwork behind UV-protective glass can further safeguard it against environmental factors, ensuring it remains vibrant for years to come.
